Distance Learning Journals

A while ago I setup some collaborative lists on Listphile of the various educational technology/distance learning journals that I’ve come across to date.  After noticing how sluggish Listphile has become recently and to ensure that these lists aren’t lost at some point if Listphile shuts down, I’ve posted the following archived lists of journals:

These by no means are exhaustive lists but rather are simply collections of the journals that I’ve found to be helpful during my academic career.  If anyone has recommendations for additional journals to be added, please leave me a comment with your recommendations.

Shared Lists of Journals with Listphile

After stumbling across Listphile, I’ve gone ahead and given the tool a try for myself and I really like what’ I’ve seen thus far. I took the list of educational technology journals I compiled a while back and posted it as a collaborative list. In addition, I’ve incorporated the list of educational research journals at compiled by Douglas Holton into the following lists:

I also have a collection of journals I’ve bookmarked here on delicious.

Anyone else using Listphile? What has been your experience?

Competencies for Online Teaching Success (COTS)

Larry Ragan, Director of Faculty development at Penn State’s World Campus has put his flip camcorder to good use over the past few months, cornering various ‘experts’, practitioners and generally experienced online teachers. He asked each to describe one core competency for successful online teaching.

He has uploaded about 30 of these 1-3 minute videos to YouTube, including this clip of Terry Anderson who shares the importance of online instructors being willing to discover new technologies when teaching online.

To find the remainder of the videos, search YouTube with the keywords “world campus cots” or simply click here.

What core compentencies do you feel are most important for a successful online instructor?  Additionally, what core competencies are most important for a successful online student?

Networked Student

This video by Wendy Drexler was inspired by CCK08, a course on “Connectivism” offered by George Siemens and Stephen Downes during fall 2008. The video depicts an actual project completed by Wendy Drexler’s high school students and seeks to help colleagues, parents, and students understand networked learning in the 21st century.

What are your thoughts on embracing networked learning experiences in e-learning?
