Dr J - I love that I searched for 4C/ID and simulation and you are one of the first google hits. Clearly, you are on the cutting edge for technology and learning. Because the course is professional development I would suggest the obvious linkedin and also Yammer (https://www.yammer.com/). My Firm is currently using Yammer. Very interesting and should be explored a little more.

A testimonial re: Google Reader. I have used it since Dr J introduced it to us about a year ago. It has proven to be one of the most useful tools in our toolkit. Highly recommend it to anyone who wants to organize blog messages.

Sandy - I added you as a student to a sample course in schoology. You should have received an email to confirm your account. Anyone else wanting an account, just leave a comment here and I'll add you. ~ Dr. J

Liz,

Technically, NIU instructors can use whatever system they want and are not obligated to use of Blackboard. That said, instructors are cautioned against using a non-NIU supported system for the exact issues you alluded to (student data residing outside NIU systems, single sign-on, etc.

There are always educators who seek to invoke their academic freedom in using whatever tool they wish. However, the overwhelming majority of NIU faculty generally stick with systems that are supported and endorsed by the institution.
